“Never Have I Ever” Instructions

  • Rules:
    • Put enough chairs out in a circle for every person playing minus 1
    • Have one person stand in the middle
    • The person in the middle says something they have never done before, and anybody that has done it must stand up and find a new chair.
    • The last person standing must now be the person in the middle


Teaching Follow-up

  • Ask:
    • Do you know anybody that is really bad? Do you try to avoid him/her?
    • What did the woman do with the perfume?
    • How did Jesus feel about what the woman had done?
    • What did the Important Leaders call the woman?
    • What did Jesus tell the woman about her sins?
    • What did the woman give to Jesus? What did this show Jesus meant to her?
    • Have you given Jesus your tears and treasure?

Running Away


“Red Light Green Light” Instructions

  • Rules:
    • One person stands on one side of the yard as the light and the others stand on the other side
    • The light says red and green lights alternating.
      • When they say red everyone must stop
      • When they say green people can move
    • If you get to the light first, you win and get to be the light.
    • If you get caught moving while its red light, you have to go back to the start


Teaching Follow-up

  • Ask:
    • Have you ever wanted to get away from home?
    • What happened to the boy after he left home?
    • Was he allowed to come home?
    • Who is the father in the story like?
    • Who is the son in the story like?
    • Do you want to come home to God?

A Man Who Didn’t Have Any Friends (None)


“Never Have I Ever” Instructions

  • Rules:
    • Grab a couple family members
    • One person in the middle, every other person sits on a seat with one seat less than total people playing (counting the person in the middle)
    • The person in the middle says “Never Have I Ever…” and shares something they have never done before. Examples:
      • Been in 4th grade
      • Seen a shark in person
      • Worn a dress
      • Eaten a bug
    • Anybody that has done it, has to get up and switch seats. The person in the middle tries to sit in one of the empty seats. The last person standing is now in the middle.


Teaching Follow-up

  • Ask:
    • What was Zacchaeus’ job?
    • Why didn’t he have friends?
    • Why couldn’t he see over the crowd?
    • What did Zacchaeus do in order to see Jesus?
    • What did Jesus say to Zacchaeus when he saw him?
    • How do you think Zacchaeus felt knowing Jesus wanted to go to his house?
      • How would you feel knowing Jesus wants to visit you?
    • Did Jesus know what he was like and what he had done? Did Jesus love him?
      • Are there things that you have done that you think causes Jesus to not love you?
      • Is there anything you can do that would cause Jesus to not love you?
    • What did Zacchaeus stop doing after interacting with Jesus?
      • Why did he want to stop doing this?
      • What things do you want to stop doing knowing that Jesus loves you?

The Friend of Little Children

“Chalk Walk” Instructions

  • Rules:
    • Get some chalk
    • Go outside
    • On a long stretch of cement (sidewalk, driveway, etc…), make a Chalk Walk
    • Put actions down on the sidewalk for people to follow using pictures. Examples:
      • Hop on one foot
      • Spin in circles
      • Make animal noises
      • Run
      • Jump
    • Do the Chalk Walk together

  • Ask:
    • Do you have to do something special to make sure your friends like you? What do you have to do?
    • Do you have to do anything to make Jesus love you?
    • What is the best gift you have ever received?
    • Jesus’ love is a ___________________
    • Have you accepted this gift?

“Town Treasure Hunt” Instructions


  • Take time to walk/drive around your town as a family to find the following items
  • Take pictures at each stop
  • Do your best to find something you think fits each clue
  • Feel free to add clues to the list
  • Items:
    • Tallest structure
    • Longest Name of a road
    • Shortest Name of a road
    • Highest hill
    • Lowest point in town
    • Most open space
    • Oldest building
    • Newest building
    • Most colorful creation
    • Least colorful creation

  • How is the kingdom of God like a hidden treasure?

“Sandwich Filler” Instructions

  • Rules:
    • Hand a slice of bread to each person playing
    • Have each person pick a protein, a vegetable, a fruit, and a condiment that you have on hand
    • Have each person put their name on a slip of paper and put the paper into a bowl
    • Have each person draw a name from the bowl
    • From the name of the person you drew, you must now make and eat a sandwich using the items they have picked
  • Extra Notes:
    • Make sure nobody gets their own name
    • Make sure each item picked is prepared to eat before you consume (ie: cook an egg, brown hamburger, etc…)

    • How many loaves of bread did Jesus have?
    • How many fish did he have?
    • How many people did Jesus feed?
    • Jesus could do this because he is ____________________!
    • What other things can Jesus do that others cannot do because he is God?

The Captain of the Storm 


“The Floor Is Lava” Instructions

  • Scenario: All the floor is lava. Try to get from one spot in the house to another.
  • Rules:
    • Nobody can touch the floor (carpet, hardwood, laminate, etc…) but you can stand on other items in the room such as furniture, pillows, blankets, shoes, etc..
    • Using objects (pillows, blankets, etc..) lay them out on the ground to make a path
    • Work together to get from one side of the room to another, or from one room to another room
    • Added Challenge Options:
      • Objects (pillows, blankets, etc…) added to the floor become unusable after being on the floor for more than 20 seconds
      • Pick someone to be the lava monster. They can remove objects (pillows, blankets, etc…) that nobody is currently standing on. They must return them to a piece of furniture


Teaching Follow-up

  • Ask:
    • Why were the disciples afraid?
      • They thought the boat would sink.
      • They did not know who Jesus was.
      • They had no faith.
    • Did the disciples need to be afraid?
      • Yes

How to Pray

“I Spy” Instructions

  • Choose somebody to be the “spy”
  • The “spy” finds something in the room with his/her eyes and says, “I spy with my little eye, something that is [color].”
  • Everyone else has 20 chances to figure out what it is.
    • They can ask yes/no questions and they can guess.
    • Make sure everyone has an equal opportunity to talk. Take turns speaking.
  • The person who guesses it right first gets to be the new “spy”
  • Repeat
  • To Remember:
    • Give everyone a chance to be the “spy” at least once.
    • Take turns guessing
    • Laugh and have fun
