Seek: Rejection or Reception

Amos 8:1-14; John 1:1-13

We can either reject God’s Word or receive God’s Word, the decision is eternal


Discussion Starter:

  • Share when “Silence” has been terrible in your life.


Read Amos 8:1-14:

  • What words/phrases/concepts stand out to you?
  • What questions do you have regarding the text?
  • If you could sum up the passage in one phrase, what would you say?
  • How does this text apply to your own life?


Rejection (8:1-14):

  • Why do you think God uses the imagery of a final harvest to show Israel their fate?
  • What would that imagery best translate to in todays society?
  • Why was God being silent so impactful?
  • How did Israel show God what they really wanted?
  • How do we do that today?
  • Why does God give us what we want?
  • What imagery used in Amos 8:9-14 sticks out to you the most?
  • What should those words motivate us to do?


Reception (John 1:1-13):

  • How does John 1:1-13 compare to the silence spoken of in 8:9-14?
  • How does John 1:1-13 show us what we and the people of Israel truly needed?
  • Does knowing the outcome of reception or rejection of Gods word motivate you to share Gods word? Should it?
  • Who can you share the word of God with this week?
